Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy

The three commandments of traditional ayurveda are Aahar, Vihar and Vijar (food , life style and thoughts). To maintain a healthy body and mind it is very important to take care yourself with the right food, a disciplined life style, and a balanced mind with healthy thoughts.

A disciplined life style means giving our body the proper rest and exercise. According to traditional ayurveda proper sleep is the base of health and sleep is known as the best therapy in life. Sleep, like most healthy and beautiful things on this earth, is free. The only thing we need to do is to fix an appointment with our bed and keep it every day.

Traditional ayurveda explains the need for everybody to have a personal life style and food structure. We all are born with different body/mind structure and our physical organs and mental functions are related to it. That means we all are unique and need more specific design in making our own life style.

Apart from sleep, the most important part in our life is the exercise. A proper exercise maintains the health by keeping body in the right balance, strength and flexibility throughout all ages. It also keeps positive energies in our body and mind and keeps us away from pains and aches through out all seasons.

Yoga is a perfect daily exercise for our body and mind, as long as we know the right asanas(postures) according to our Dosha(body/mind type). Doing an asana without knowing our body is like playing a piano without understanding the musician's note. So it is very important to know your Doshas and design a yoga program for your daily practice. In ancient India people were practicing 'elementary yoga' with the help of an ayurvedic yoga therapist to maintain a healthy body and mind. Before starting the yoga practice, the therapist diagnoses the client to find out the alignment of the body. The therapist uses traditional ayurvedic methods and consult with the client to know more about his/her medical history and present symptoms. Finally the therapist makes a detailed report about the client’s major bodily systems such as digestive, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive, endocrine, nerve, bones, muscels etc. According to the diagnosing results the therapist makes an individual yoga program for the client.

Through individualizing your yoga practice under the supervision of your own yoga therapist you can develop it into a therapy and eventually to your spiritual development and feel the yoga in your life more than an exercise.
